Man, Season 5 of The Family Business really didn’t hold back. It’s like the writers sat down and said, “You know what? Let’s just stir the pot, flip the table, and see what happens.” And honestly, I’m not mad about it. If you’ve been following the Duncan family from the start, you know they’re not your average crime family. They’ve got money, power, secrets, and enough family drama to fill a whole daytime talk show lineup.
The LC Plot Twist Nobody Believed
So, first off, if you thought LC was really gone after Season 4, I don’t know what to tell you. Nothing stays buried in this show. People fake their deaths like it’s a casual Sunday activity. I’m half expecting someone to pop back up in Season 6 with amnesia or some long-lost twin storyline. Would it be ridiculous? Yeah. Would I still watch? Absolutely.
Vegas coming back from prison was supposed to be this huge moment, right? But it didn’t exactly go smoothly. You’d think someone returning from years behind bars would get a warm welcome. Nope. Instead, he’s stepping into a tornado. The family’s not even on the same page about anything, and everyone’s got their own agenda. It’s kinda wild how quickly alliances shift. One minute someone’s got your back, the next they’re plotting behind it.
Rio Meets The Alliance
Now, Rio’s storyline this season? Spicy. That man is always ten steps ahead or thinks he is. But when he gets tangled up with The Alliance, it gets real messy real fast. I mean, of all the enemies the Duncans have faced, The Alliance feels different. More dangerous, more organized, just straight-up lethal. The scenes with Rio trying to navigate that mess while still handling family business? Stressful to watch, but in a good way. Like, the edge-of-your-seat, yelling-at-the-TV kind of good.
The Cast? Still Killing It
Also, shoutout to the casting directors. They nailed it again. Ernie Hudson? Legend. Valarie Pettiford? Always delivers. Darrin Henson’s still doing his thing, and let’s not ignore Javicia Leslie, who somehow makes chaos look elegant. The whole cast just fits. Even the side characters feel important, which isn’t always the case with shows like this.
A Car Dealership Front? Classic Duncan Style
What I find hilarious though is how this family runs an exotic car dealership as a front. Like, if you know, you know. But imagine being a regular customer trying to buy a Bentley while a shootout just happened in the back office. Wild stuff. And yet, in the world of The Family Business, it totally works.
Slower, But On Purpose
There’s also something about the pacing of this season that felt a bit different. Not slower, but more deliberate. Like, they really wanted you to sit in the tension. Some of the scenes lingered longer than usual, giving you time to absorb all the little expressions and silences. It’s subtle, but it works. Builds the suspense without having to go full Michael Bay explosion every five minutes.
How Much More Can They Take?
I do wonder though, how long can this show keep upping the stakes? Every season they manage to pull out new villains, new betrayals, more secrets. Eventually, someone’s gotta crack. Or maybe that’s the point. Maybe we’re supposed to watch them unravel, piece by piece, and that’s what makes it so addictive.
Nope, Still Not on Netflix
Oh, and for anyone still waiting for it to drop on Netflix, don’t hold your breath. Seasons 1 through 4 are still up, but Season 5’s staying on BET+ for now. Which makes sense, since BET+ actually owns the show, but it’s still annoying if you’re used to binging it all in one place. I get it, subscription fatigue is real. But if you’re a diehard fan, it’s worth the dive.
A Little Over-the-Top, But We Love It Anyway
Now, not everything was perfect. Some of the dialogue gets a little dramatic, like soap-opera dramatic. You know, that pause-stare-say-the-line kind of thing. But honestly? That’s part of the charm at this point. It’s not trying to be this super gritty, hyper-realistic crime drama. It leans into the drama and the style and just goes for it. And I respect that. Shows that know exactly what they are and don’t pretend otherwise? I’ll take that any day.
Oh, And the Fashion? Iconic
And seriously, the fashion this season? Everyone looked expensive. Like, even when they’re dealing with cartels and ambushes, not a single outfit is wrinkled. Makes me feel bad for wearing sweats all the time. But hey, it’s aspirational, right?
Can’t Wait for Season 6
Anyway, if you’ve made it this far and haven’t started Season 5 yet, I’d say jump in. It’s got everything you’d expect and probably a few things you wouldn’t. The plot twists are wild, the stakes are high, and the Duncan family somehow keeps surviving it all. I don’t know how, but they do. Maybe it’s luck. Maybe it’s just good TV. Either way, I’m already waiting for Season 6.
